Sandpiper Restaurant Menu

I don't think the chef knows how to make bruschetta. It came out full cloves of garlic, full slices of sun dried tomatoes, complete artichoke heart and slim amount of olive oil.....seemed wonkie to me.

Recommended by hotel, this was a wonderful experience on the Snake River, outdoor dining featuring local beef, trout. Settled on the the rainbow, it was best trout I ever had. The escargot appetizer is nice touch. If you want prime rib get early, they sold out! Went for walk after dinner to see the falls, such a nice safe town , lots of happy locals here!

We were a little concerned when we arrived and the parking lot was full. We were thinking "Long wait"...but the host found us a table as soon as we walked in. Ok, that's nice, but is this place as good as our friends say? Wow! After a long day of fishing on the South Fork, we were ravenous, so there was a definite need for red meat and potatoes. The Sandpiper delivers! High quality steak, seafood and yummy appetizers are the main attraction and they know how to satisfy a demanding clientele. Special note, the service was actually amazing, our server seemed to appear magically at precisely the right time, with the right answers for everything. This recent trip to the Snake River plain has had no culinary disappointments, and the Sandpiper put an exclamation point on that.

The only reason for the second star is that I could tell the wait staff seemed friendly, and my steam clam appetizer was good. I didn't get to experience the staff themselves as I sat at the bar to eat and was greeted by one of the more unpleasant bartenders I've come across. I guess that I happened to be a burden by asking if they have the full menu service at the bar? I brushed if off under the assumption she may have been busy. This proved not to be true, and I sat there as she endlessly complained about whatever happened to be in front of her which makes for great in meal accompaniment. The bar staff was not busy thus throwing that excuse out the window. I ordered the steamed clam appetizer which was pretty good. No complaints here. The kicker to top off the meal was the "salmon" caesar salad entree which consisted of a large portion of romaine (some fresh and some dark green and wilted) with a piece of salmon made for two bites. Lucky me. You'd think that a restaurant that boast of their salmon preparations would follow up with a reasonable size piece for an entree salad. Unless you are sitting at on the deck taking in the view or are a local at the bar (they seemed to get the time of day), I would avoid this spot at all costs. The Jaker and Copper Rill, or The Snakebite are all choices that would be much more welcoming.

Friday early evening and no waiting time for patio seating with great view on the Snake River. Sitting close to the fire makes the dinner even more enjoyable on a cool evening. Food and Service were excellent. Top notch dinner experience

The outdoor seating area is terrific. Along with good service, those were the only positives. The food is awful. It started with bad oysters, horrible crab cakes , and progressed to an over cooked filet Oscar style with what looked like imitation crab. The bread was the best part of the meal.

  • Russ M.

wow. I can't really speak highly enough of the food, the service and the atmosphere. there is a lovely seating area outside that has a view of the river and a nice outdoor fireplace. even if it's chilly it's worth it - they have jackets inside for outdoor diners!

I hate to sound mean, but this place is dreadful. It would be fitting for the large parking lot to be full of Chevelles, Pintos, Monte Carlos, Camaros and Olds 88s, because this place is like stepping into a mid-1970s time warp. The interior is dark and carved up, with fake hanging plants. Perhaps redoing this "style" will become the next hipster look and this place will suddenly be considered cutting edge. The food was predictably awful. I was puzzled by what was meant by "Calamari Steak" and being adventurous ordered it to find out more. Don't make my mistake. It was a thick crust of frozen food fish sticks coating covering a long rectangle of something tasteless and indeterminate. Luckily, all it tasted of was the fried breading. I've had better salads in 3rd class city airport Friday's then the salmon and spinach salad here. Avoid it. I do hope the poor waitress was going to be off right after we left, because she was clearly overwhelmed by her duties. The bread at least was acceptable.

The dining room and bar are reminiscent of a 1970's night club but is charming in its own way. They do however have a very large patio overlooking a waterway from the river which is an attractant for Canadian Geese and Mallard ducks. There is also a walking/bike path along the river which was very busy with people enjoying a nice evening. There is a very large fire pit which they lit to add ambiance and warmth on a cool evening. We chose pasta entrees, my wife ordering Shrimp Alfredo over linguini. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh broccoli florets, baby carrots and Pea pods. I chose a Chicken Artichoke in an Alfredo type sauce which was flavored with pesto over Rotelli pasta. This sauce too had fresh pea pods and lots of artichoke quarters. Both were served piping hot. Strangely, they charge for salads if you order pasta while salad is included with their other entree choices. We were served a nice mini loaf of warm bread. The Caesar salads were tasty though fairly small for the price. The waiter was efficient though very busy with other tables so wasn't as attentive to our needs as he could have been. The portions were ample and we both took about half of our pasta home for another day.

This place has some of the best prime rib in town. The bread they bring you at the start is really yummy.

I was in town on business and just happened to eat here because I was staying at one of the hotels nearby. Fantastic ambience out on the patio with a great view of the river. I had the Sturgeon, it was cooked perfectly!

Wow, this place was great! I had the baked halibut with coconut shrimp, it was amazing. The mashed potatoes were 3.5 out of 5. The waitress (sadly I didn't get the name) was extremely polite and seemed to enjoy her job. She was very attentive and just pleasing to talk to. I will be coming back here next time I'm in Idaho.

This place is fabulous. Loved the house salad. Service attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Went here with about 6 people and had the slowest service ever! It took us over an hour to get our food. The waitress never came back to even tell us what was going on or apologize. When we got the good it was hit and miss. My clam chowder was good, my husbands steak wasn't seasoned at all. Maybe it was just an off night because they were very busy but I won't be going back.

Delicious food and friendly staff!! I got the crab legs and they were HUGE, and amazing!!

Great, friendly service....and good food! Cannot beat the location, right on the Snake River.

Overall I wasn't very impressed. But the positives were great service. From the hostesses to the waiter the service was friendly, timely and quite professional. And the patio was a great atmosphere. The canal, trail and Snake River made for a great view and comfortable setting. Then there are the cons - the food. I ordered the Ahi appetizer and was quite let down. The Ahi was pale and lacked flavor and the melt in your mouth tenderness that one comes to expect with an ahi app. The Clam Chowder was good, not great. The real disappointment was the steak. Based upon recommendations I had high expectations. I ordered the filet, Oscar style and found the sauce lifeless and broken. There was very little crab and way too much soggy artichoke. I will say the steak was a decent cut and near expectations. At the end of the day I'd probably go back and try something else but only because the atmosphere and service were quite enjoyable.

Great location on the river. Waitperson kiley was a pleasure. Guinness on tap, fresh wild salmon poached was perfect. Caesar salad fair. Overall will certainly visit again. Maybe go back tonite for another Guinness!

This restaurant was recommended to us by the very friendly front desk guy at our hotel. My husband was in the mood for the typical American fare so this restaurant was a good dinner choice. I think the food itself is pretty much a solid 3-star. They did it well, but it wasn't anything different than other similar places. My husband had the steak with baked potato, I had the grilled Idaho trout (never had it before so I had to try since I was in Idaho), and my son had the cheeseburger. The service was good and we also received a discount for staying at the hotel next door, hence the 4th star.

Great service, good food. The waitstaff was excellent and helpful in guiding us through choices for a light dinner. Even suggested an out of the ordinary wine to try with dinner. Nice. Too cold for outdoors this time, but we've supped on the patio (in summer) and that was extraordinary setting.

I have been here twice with some generous friends who take my family out when I am visiting Idaho Falls from the east coast. We were a nice but fairly needy group. The hostess and waitresses were sweet and accommodating, letting us sit at a table that was out of their section and then letting us move when it got too cold. The Waitress went out of her way to split entrees for us etc. My dad and his friend decided to share one Johnny Walker Blue at the end of diner and she even split that into two glasses. Little things like that make the difference, she didn't have to do that but did so without being asked because she was nice. The mixed drinks are strong and the wine list is extensive. They have wine by the glass on special by the month, so you dont have to spend a fortune if you dont want to. The bottle selection is large. I had steak oscar the most recent time I visited and it was delicious. I love the sauces they use on the steak. The bread was also great. I love that the entrees come with a salad. And I also love that the salad isn't boring - you can get a salad with baby shrimp and peanuts which is really tasty. The Patio is nice, as you can look out on the river. It gets chilly at night, but a long fireplace keeps the tables warm. There are fleece jackets to borrow if you need them, which I thought was cute. It is a bit pricey, but it is very good.

  • Mable E.

Entrees are basically a la carte aside from your side. The bread is not as good as it looks. The black kitten that hangs around the restaurant has discerning taste and prefers steak. Good food for the area. Steak and Fish!

  • Kassiah W.

I came here for a wedding recption, and the food was pretty decent. I'd like to eat here again when they're not serving a large party, so I can fairly asses the food when it's not super busy.

  • Chrisene-Faye M.

This place is like a supper club. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend sitting outside where you can see a relaxing view of the river and ducks. It's in a great location (across from the hotel I stayed at and adjacent to the river). We ordered the Sirloin and Halibut combination and the Steak Sandpiper. Both dishes had great flavor. I left full and happy.

Okay atmosphere, nice patio on river. Wine was great, I had the Pinot. Fish was actually really good as well, but for $24 I would like more than a small serving of frozen/steamed veggies with my entree. Salad was atrocious-cheap iceberg, weird peanuts, and these slimy gooey little shrimp. A dinner salad can and should be more than that. Tomatoes, carrots. Cucumbers, croutons, anything else. With some work they could be at 4 stars.

  • Roberta H.

Just amazing. The food was to die for, I got the filet wrapped in bacon and steamed veggies. My only complaint would be I asked for a side of grilled shrimp, and it was very dry. The service was out of this world, our server was Kaily and she was adorable. If you go, you have to get the mudslide dessert, omg. Overall awesome.

The food we had here was incredible. I had the trout almondine, and it was awesome. My girlfriend had baked halibut that had brie on it and was stuffed with crab and shrimp, and it was one of the best things I've eaten. It was mind boggling We ate hear during a 3 week, 8,000 mile roadtrip, and this was hands down our most memorable meal. The drink selection was awesome as well, and for a seafood restaurant, I thought the prices were pretty average. Some reviews I've read seem to think it's high priced, but I thought it was comparable to seafood restaurants anywhere else in the country.

Went here on a Friday night in mid-November. Got there at 6 PM and we were worried that we didn't make reservations, but had no problem getting a table. I got a Moose Drool beer - with a name like that, I just had to try it. It's a dark beer and somewhat bitter but they serve it very cold so it goes down well. I got one of the specialties, the Chicken Oscar, which was very good! A nice blend of flavors. For the sides I chose the house salad, which was highly recommended. The blend of cashews and mini-cocktail shrimp in the salad is unique, but it really works well together. I also got the garlic mashed potatoes, which were good. My wife got the Blackened Chicken and Penne Pasta. This was also very good and came with two huge pieces of pesto and parmesan covered bread. In the end it was definitely too much food. The service was good, professional and friendly. It was dark when we were eating but during daylight hours the windows from the dining area appear to have a great view of the Snake River.

September in Idaho...an evening in IF, Yelp and Le Ritz Hotel suggested it. The Sandpiper did not let us down. We were road weary and couldn't decide patio or inside, the gracious host nudged us to the patio offering us nice polar fleece patio jackets. We sat by the outdoor fireplace with a lovely view of the river. Server was attentive, the wine was good and reasonable, 1/2 rack of ribs was tender and the ID baked potato was yummy with a hint of garlic on the toasty skin, filet was cooked perfectly, the Caesar was a good, green salad with Italian was bottled mediocre. Would definitely go back, a great night in ID.

Went here for dinner based on yelp. We only had and appetizer, clam chowder and drinks. My daughter had the child's Fettuccine Alfredo and we tried the Pan Fried Oysters other recommended. The parking lot was full we actually got the last spot. I assumed when we walked in we'd have a wait, but we were seated right away on the patio. The ambiance out there is great with the fire and view of the river. The service is good and all seamed to be enjoying them selves and the food. The Food: the Oyster everyone raved about were just OK, they were cooked perfectly and that in its-self is good, However they could have been seasoned better, I added salt but it's not the same one they've cooled. The were topped with bacon and scallion with a large side of tartar sauce. The claim chowder again was OK, good nothing to rave about and the same goes for the kids fettuccine The service was excellent and every one from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left they made you feel like they wanted to deliver excellent service. I would go back and highly recommend trying it.

Really enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant. It was my first time in Idaho Falls and so didn't know what to expect. The steak was delicious and salad was very good. Wait staff were very attentive. the turtle dessert was to die for.

Pricey for what you get, but the service is impeccable, and the food is great. I would come JUST for their baked potatoes. They're that good.

I came here a couple of times after my last review and tried different things. The fish is good. The steaks are good. The bread is good. The halibut I ate before was definitely a fluke because the food here is really good!

I'm going to keep this simple and sweet. This place is outstanding. The dinner, wine, and nighttime atmosphere are awesome. Sit by the fire and you and your special someone will not be disappointed. I had the baked stuffed halibut, calamari steaks, and a sweet white wine. Sorry but I do not recall the name.

Some fine dining in idaho falls. The food is always the same. Good. I always get the pan fried oysters as well as the prime rib Oscar style.

  • Linda C.

So good we ate there back to back evenings...on the gorgeous Snake River, ask for a table with a view or on the patio if weather permits. Pork w/ seeds appetizer is probably the worst thing we tried, cold tenerloin served with untoasted sesame seeds, ketchup and sinus clearing hot mustard. Didnt even have a way to get the addons from the plating to the pork, had seeds everywhere before we got a spoon. Everything else was outstanding, clam chowder, tropical halibut, house salad, sockeye salmon, prime rib, shrimp primavera. Even the bread and idaho baked potatoes exceed expectations. Great service from Kirk. We' be back, see you there!

Been to the Sand Piper and it was like walking into 1970's steak house and brought back memories of deep fried zucchini. The food was good the steak was a 3.5 and the service a four. I would not call it fine dinning but it is upscale. The Sandpiper has been around Idaho for a long time with the final two in Idaho Falls and Pocatello.

Pretty good food. I typically go there at least once every time I go to Idaho Falls. It's very consistent from visit to visit.

    (4)
  • Joseph K.

Not even close to good service. A couple that had arrived 10+ minutes after I did had their order taken before mine. Never received any bread or refills of my drink. The worse part was the portions that was sent out. I ordered the Salmon the piece of fish that came out was so small.I could have got a bigger piece at McDonalds off their fish sandwich. The sweet potato being in Idaho was a joke also tiny two little slivers of sweet potato can't believe it.

This is the best place in town. Their Moscow Mules are delicious! Food is great. Service is quick. And the atmosphere was comfortable.

We had steak, and lobster for dinner. They were both delicious and we would most definitely recommend Sandpiper to anyone!!! After dinner we had probably one of the best mud pies I have ever tasted!! The server was on top of every need and we never had to ask for a refill.

The clam chowder is delicious. And a beautiful view. The pasta Alfredo was average. It was our first visit there. The sourdough bread and real butter was great.

  • Diane Z.

Very good food. A little short on the amount of salad dressing put in a cup for using on the generous dinner salad. A couple of small, very sad (& dark) pieces of lettuce in an otherwise very good garden salad. Servings are all very generous.

Top sirloin is great ! Comes out delicious !Love the Idaho baked potato too Clam chowder is great too Right next to snake river , very nice view ! Very nice restaurant ! Services is good Love this place Will come back again if I get a chance to travel again

  • Beth S.

My husband and I were traveling through on our way back home and stayed close to the restaurant so decided to give it a try. I had the steak sandpiper and my husband the sirloin and halibut combination which both came with 1 side. For the price I feel like they could have added either a salad or fresh veggies, other than that the food was very good and the view of the river was an added bonus.

  • Dallas R.

Really solid place, service is great, food is good, pretty decent beer selection. Some of the menu is pretty overpriced given the relative food cost in the area.

  • Jake P.

This place is kind of a hidden gem for Idaho Falls. The building itself is way back off the main road near some of the hotels along the river. The menu was mainly fish which can really be hit or miss in Idaho Falls. I had the salmon which was excellent. They offer their fish prepared quite a few different ways. I opted for the broiled salmon and tried the dill butter and chipotle sauce on the side. It is pretty pricey for what you get, but I think you will be hard pressed to find this much variety of seafood anywhere else in IF.

  • Kim H.

Lots of great menu items at the Sandpiper. We first went while on our anniversary date and it didn't disappoint! The fried shrimp is amazing and the house salad is TO DIE FOR! Really great service and all of the food is awesome!

    (4)
  • Bo D.

Encouraged by the positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. The house salad is great, as is the baked potato (duh). The macadamia nut halibut was a bit disappointing, as it had too much crust for the amount of fish. Service was good. Unfortunately, it was raining when I went, but I imagine the balcony has a great view of the river.

  • Patrick Z.

This place was right next door to the hotel I was staying at. It was a great location. They had a patio outside with a fire wall for warmth. The view of the falls was great. I ordered a chicken dish with caesar's salad and garlic mashed potatoes. The flavors were terrific. I wanted to try the steak, but couldn't afford a gout flair up. I also liked friendly wait staff. We had a group of six of us and we asked for seperate checks due to us all using expense accounts. This was not a problem. Sometimes restaurants balk at doing this with groups. This was great food and great decore.

  • Jerry M.

Saturday night and the place was getting pretty packed. I have to say the steak I had was amazing, but since it was busy, it did seem to take awhile to get our food. Our waitress did a great job for us as we were an easy bunch for her I am sure. Outside tables are very popular, so first come first serve for those wanting to sit out there. We opted for an inside table to avoid waiting to eat.

    (4)
  • Mary H.

"Fine dining" this isn't, but the food is good and, as other reviewers have noted, the service is excellent. It was very windy, so we opted to eat inside--pretty noisy, but we were able to carry on a conversation. Even from inside, you can see the water. They had a large selection of beers and ales, and my gin martini was just right, nice and dry without too much dilution from the ice shaker. Clam chowder was just okay, but the tossed salad was good and the mustard dressing had real bite. Copper River salmon with dill sauce was delicious, as was the ahi with a rather spicy citrus sauce. Alas, we were too full for dessert!
